How was your week? I had sick kiddos this week and have I mentioned how much they hate going to the doctor’s? Everytime they get sick I have to try every trick in the book to get them through that office door! After finding out the youngest had strep, I knew I had to take my oldest to get tested too. As I called the office to set up an appointment, he was listening from the hallway and ran to hide. I was still on the phone with the receptionist and he’d already sent his brother in, to inform me that he wasn’t sick!

The deal

Tracking him down wasn’t too hard and I decided to negotiate with him. I told him if his test proved he wasn’t sick I’d bake him whatever he wanted. If his test proved that he was sick and I was right, he’d have to do extra chores. Not one to turn down a chance to prove his Mama wrong he struck up a deal in between sniffles. I asked him what he wanted me to bake him and his request was Iced Pumpkin Cookies. Pumpkin Cookies in the Spring seems a little ludicrous but pumpkin cookies it was! Long story short, Mom was right but is too much of a softie, so I made him his cookies anyways.

What about the treats?

My cookie recipe calls for 1 cup of pumpkin puree and most small cans of pumpkin come in 15oz. Cans. Not quite enough to double the cookie batch, but what to do with the rest? Enter this Faith approved recipe for 4 Ingredient Pumpkin Banana Dog Treats! I shouldn’t have had my doubts though, Faith absolutely loves bananas and apparently pumpkin too. I hope your doggo will love them as well!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350° F.

Place the banana in your mixing bowl and beat for a minute until it’s more of a puree.

Next add your eggs and continue to mix until combined.

Add in your pumpkin puree and mix until smooth.

Add in your flour one cup at a time with your mixer on low.

Once everything is combined switch to medium speed and mix another minute until it forms a dough like consistency. It should look something like the picture before.

Next you’ll lightly flour your surface and your rolling pin.

Form your dough into a disc and lightly flatten it onto your surface. Using your rolling pin roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick. Flour your treat cutter and cut out your desired dog treat shapes.

Place your cutouts onto your cookie sheets. Mine made about 20 which was enough for two full cookie sheets.

Set your timer and wait patiently for 20 minutes. This was the hardest part for Faith.

When you take them out they’ll look something like this.

They should slide easily off of your cookie sheet. Place them in an air tight storage container or treat jar.

Wait for them to completely cool before letting your pup have a taste.

Enjoy!
